The F Major Chord

The F major chord is a major chord derived from the E major chord shape, shifted upwards by one fret.

The below diagram shows you how to play the chord with suggested finger positions.

Fingering the F Major Chord

  • Use your index finger to press down all strings on the 1st fret
  • Place your ring finger on the 3rd fret of the A string
  • Put your pinky on the 3rd fret of the D string
  • Place your middle finger on the 2nd fret of the G string
  • Strum all the strings together

Chord Attributes

  • Intervals: 1 – 3 – 5
  • Notes: F – A – C
  • Chord Symbols: F, Fmaj, F∆
